I was approached in 2004 by Newport Police Station and
the Isle of Wight Highways to design and produce a vibrant
mural for a local subway that had for years been a problem
spot for graffiti vandalism.

Work commenced at the start of January in 2005, and wasn’t really the right weather for painting as it was bitterly
cold. I started painting at 1.00am on the Saturday morning and finished on the Sunday evening around 5.00pm.
The Riverside public subway is very prominent and visible from Coppins Bridge roundabout. The subway had
become a regular target for graffiti vandalism causing it to be a focus for bad publicity and an eyesore to both
users of the subway and passing traffic.
